Quels légumes donner (ou pas) à ton lapin ? Quels légumes donner (ou pas) à ton lapin ?

What vegetables should you give (or not give) to your rabbit?

Rabbits, these little gourmands with big ears, love to nibble on fresh vegetables! But be careful, not all of them are good for them. Some are great, others should be consumed in moderation, and some are downright dangerous. Here is a fun and practical guide to treat your furball safely!

Vegetables to give without worry 🥕🥬

These vegetables are safe bets, rich in fiber and vitamins. You can give them every day by varying the pleasures:

  • Carrot tops (carrots themselves are in moderation, too much sugar!)

  • Celery stick

  • Endive

  • Fennel

  • Romaine lettuce (avoid iceberg lettuce, too bland and nutrient-free)

  • Parsley (in small doses)

  • Basil, coriander, mint, tarragon (yum, it’s fragrant!)

  • Oak Leaf Salad

  • Cress

  • Cucumber (in moderation, it's mostly water)

Vegetables to give in small doses ⚠️

Some vegetables are good, but in excess, they can cause minor digestive problems:

  • Carrot (too sweet, it's a candy, not a meal!)

  • Tomato (no leaves or stems, it's toxic)

  • Beetroot (lots of sugar, give sparingly)

  • Broccoli (watch out for gas!)

  • Cauliflower and Brussels sprouts (same problem, makes you bloated)

  • Spinach (contains oxalates, limit)

Vegetables to avoid at all costs!

These foods are harmful or even toxic for your rabbit. So, forget it!

  • Potato and sweet potato

  • Onion, garlic, leek, chives (really toxic!)

  • Lawyer (dangerous for them)

  • Rhubarb (poison!)

  • Beans and peas (hard to digest)

  • White or red cabbage

How much and how often? 🕒

The best is a portion of fresh vegetables every day, representing about 10% of the rabbit's weight . If you want to test a new food, introduce it little by little to see how it reacts.

And of course, don't forget: hay is the basis of his diet , vegetables are a supplement, and quality pellets are a plus.
